(PLATTSBURGH- January 22, 2025) - A remarkable display of courage and teamwork saved a life during a high school football game at Plattsburgh High School on November 8, 2024. When an individual suffered a sudden cardiac emergency in the bleachers, quick-thinking bystanders and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) played a pivotal role in reversing the cardiac arrest.
Their willingness to step forward and assist in this critical situation underscores the vital importance of community CPR training and public access to AEDs. Every effort, no matter how small, contributed to the successful outcome—a powerful testament to the value of preparedness and collective action.
To honor these efforts and emphasize the significance of CPR training and AED availability, the Plattsburgh Fire Department and the City of Plattsburgh are hosting a press conference:

"The willingness of bystanders to jump in and help a total stranger shows how strong the North Country is,” says Scott Lawliss, Fire Chief for the City of Plattsburgh Fire Department. “No matter what role each rescuer played, it was key to all the right pieces coming together to save a life that night. This is a great story that outlines the importance of knowing CPR and having Public Access AED’s as these events can happen anywhere, at any time.”
