Dog Licenses
If you have recently adopted a dog or have one and were unaware of the City of Plattsburgh licensing law, now is the time to license your pet to ensure its safety and identification in case it gets lost! Each year, hundreds of beloved family dogs are lost because these animals have not been licensed and therefore have no identification tags. A dog license allows everyone to know that your dog has a family waiting for them. To put it simply, if you love your dog, license it!
The process is quick and easy. In NYS, all dogs four months of age or older must be licensed. The identification tag must always be affixed to the dog’s collar. Dogs must always be identified when off the owner’s premises. The license must be renewed annually and your friendly City Clerk’s office will send reminders a month in advance of renewal.
The documents required are proof of rabies and whether or not the dog has been spayed or neutered. Please provide the proper paperwork from your veterinarian with date of rabies, rabies manufacturer, serial lot number, rabies tag number and date of expiration of vaccination.
We will get all other information such as owner name, address and phone number when you visit our office.
The fee is minimal when compared to the love and companionship you receive in return. For dogs that have been altered the fee is $8.50 per year, unaltered $15.50.
