City and Canadian Pacific Railway Police are currently investigating a fatal train accident which occurred at about 5:12PM this evening near the Margaret Street rail crossing in the City of Plattsburgh.

A Canadian Pacific Railway train travelling southbound between Rouses Point and Saratoga Springs with 62 rail cars, struck an adult male who was on the railroad tracks south of the Margaret Street railroad crossing.  The male was pronounced dead at the scene by Clinton County Coroner David Donah.  An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at CVPH medical center.

The stopped train has caused traffic to be blocked at most of the railway crossings in the City while the accident is being investigated.  The Cumberland Avenue railroad bridge should be used by motorists needing to get from the south end of the City to Route 9 north.

More information to follow as it becomes available.
