At about 2:45pm TD Bank North, 136 Margaret St, Plattsburgh called the Plattsburgh Police Department to report protesters sitting in the lobby of the bank refusing to leave. Responding officers encountered approximately 10-15 people protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline in front of the bank along the sidewalk. Upon entering the bank, officers found three additional protesters sitting in the bank lobby. Bank employees explained to officers that they asked the protesters several times to leave the bank as their presence was disrupting bank business and intimidating bank employees but they refused.
Officers attempted to interview the protesters but they refused to speak. Officers explained to protesters that the bank was going to press charges for trespass unless they left.
After about 20 minutes, a TD Bank employee decided to press charges and requested police remove them from the bank.
