“City Police arrest two for robbery of heroin”

During an investigation into illegal narcotics sales, members of the Plattsburgh City Police Narcotics Enforcement Unit became aware of a robbery of heroin from an individual (name withheld for security reasons).
The victim detailed his encounter, on 8/10/2018, where he was in his vehicle, and two individuals approached him. It was at this time that he recognized the individuals and one of them displayed a 14-inch hatchet, put the hatchet up to the victim's neck and forcibly stole approximately 50 bags of heroin from him.
After an extensive investigation by Plattsburgh City Police Detectives, a search warrant was applied for and granted for two apartments at the Rip Van Winkle Motel (15 Commodore Thomas MacDonough Hwy, Plattsburgh) and the person of John W. Rotondi.
The search warrant was executed on 8/29/18 at which time a 14-inch hatchet was recovered along with a small amount of heroin.
Plattsburgh City Police arrested Jeremy T. Helmer (33) of Plattsburgh on 8/30/18 for the charges of Robbery 1st degree (B Felony) and Petit Larceny (A Misdemeanor). He was arraigned on 8/30/2018 in Plattsburgh City Court and sent to the Clinton County Jail on $5,000 cash bail/$10,000 bond.
A warrant of arrest was applied for and granted by Plattsburgh City Court for John W. Rotondi (53) of Plattsburgh for the charges of Robbery 1st degree (B Felony) and Petit Larceny (A Misdemeanor). On 9/4/2018, Rotondi was produced at the Plattsburgh Police Department due to the fact that at that time, he was incarcerated in the Clinton County Jail. He was later arraigned on the charges stemming from this investigation and was sent back to the Clinton County Jail on $50,000 cash bail/$100,000 bond.
